When you are viewing the photos in a photo gallery, there is a toolbar across the top of each page that lets you control how you view the photos in the gallery. Using this toolbar you can do the following things:
- move forward or backwards through the gallery manually,
- move forward through the gallery automatically, at either of two speeds (this works only if you have Javascript enabled on your browser),
- choose at any point to return to the photo home page,
- show various numbers of photos per page, as follows:
Photos per page Size of Photos Reason to use this option 1 Full-sized To really look at the photos, to see the full captions, and to activate the videos. 2 or 4 Half-sized To move faster through the gallery. 56 Thumbnail To scan the gallery for a specific photo. - get help in using the toolbar (click this icon
).
Also, you can click on any photo:
- On a page with more than one photo, this will take you to the page with just that one photo.
- On a page with one photo, this will take you to a page that shows information about the photo.
Video clips show as active videos ONLY in the one photo per page mode and ONLY if you have Javascript enabled and have the Flash 8 or 9 plugin installed. Otherwise, video clips show as a still photo with a "VIDEO" watermark across the picture. Active video clips begin playing as soon as a few seconds of the clip has loaded.
The toolbar that appears below an active video will let you do the following things:
- pause or re-start the playing,
- move to any point in the playing,
- switch to fullscreen mode, or
- control the audio volume.
Fullscreen mode uses the entire screen to play the video, thus covering up both toolbars. However, if you move the mouse, the video toolbar will reappear briefly. You can escape from fullscreen mode via the keyboard (ESC), or by again clicking the fullscreen button on the video toolbar.
Fullscreen video is fun, even though the video is usually fuzzy. Give it a try.
